National Custody Forum in September 2013 will argue that “Police officers should not be able to detain someone under s. 136 MHA as it can lead to inappropriate treatment and excessive time in custody.” Instead, the Federation now appear to argue for the removal of all powers under the MHA for the police and a response by a mental health crisis team.
