A bit more about Kate Webster
I qualified as a solicitor in 2006 having carried out my training at a Liverpool Law Firm. I joined Peter Edwards Law in February 2020; I work in the area Private Client Law which includes Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney (Property & Finances and Health & Welfare) and Probate. My work also encompasses dealing with Court of Protection matters. I have a special interest in human rights and in helping vulnerable clients. I am pleased to have recently qualified with an ‘Advanced Certificate in Advising Vulnerable Clients’ from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (S.T.E.P.).
Before qualifying as a lawyer in 2006, I worked for many years in the NHS specifically in the area of child health and health promotion. The World Health Organisation states:
‘Promoting and protecting health and respecting, promoting and fulfilling human rights are inextricably linked’.
Good care cannot be provided without respect for human rights, yet regrettably far too often we find vulnerable people find themselves the victims of inadequate services and substandard care. Frequently we find that a power imbalance exists with the vulnerable person’s wishes and feelings not being heard by the professionals involved. We can advocate on behalf of the vulnerable person to help redress this imbalance, ensuring legal safeguards are put in place to protect their best interests.
The model of starting from the wishes and needs of the individual, rather than the agendas of professionals or organisations, is the model we follow.
I feel that my qualifications and my experience have equipped me well to be able to effectively assist clients in this important area of law.
I am a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (S.T.E.P.) and also a member of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE)
Little known fact...
In my late 20’s I bought a 12 month around the world ticket; I spent most of my time living and working in Oaxaca, a beautiful city located in the south of Mexico. I arrived not being able to speak any Spanish and left being able to converse in Espanol!
Away from the office...
In my free time I enjoy yoga. I still like to travel although don’t get the opportunity so much now… I would love to explore more of Central and South America! I am interested in all kinds of art, interior design and poetry.
I love this little poem called “Fluent” by John O’Donohue:
‘I would love to live
Like a river flows,
Carried by the surprise
Of its own unfolding.’
